A Sydney attacker in Australia was a former member of Lashkar-e-Taiba
Assessments by Australia’s domestic intelligence agency (ASIO) indicate that a Pakistani attacker in Sydney, Naveed Akram, had links with an ISIS cell in Sydney about six years ago, in October 2019, and had pledged allegiance to the group. At that time, police had also conducted investigations into him.
According to available information, Naveed Akram maintained close ties with an individual known as Matari, who claims to be the head of ISIS’s Australia branch and is currently serving a seven-year prison sentence for involvement with the group.
In addition, recent information suggests that the attacker had previously spent time at a military facility in Pakistan, which is believed to be linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba.
The attack carried out in Sydney by Naveed Akram, a former member of Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba, has further reinforced reports and assessments indicating close links between Lashkar-e-Taiba and ISIS.
