The IAEA has begun consultations with Ukraine and the Russian Federation on a temporary armistice near the Zaporizhzhia NPP so that technicians can safely repair the damaged backup power line, Rafael Grossi said.
According to him, on January 2, as a result of hostilities, the last backup power line with a voltage of 330 kV was damaged and disconnected. Currently, the station depends on a single 750 kV line, which significantly increases the risks to nuclear safety. Therefore, the IAEA proposes that Russia and Ukraine agree on a temporary ceasefire zone about 10 kilometres from the damage.
