WAL Isn’t a Token — It’s a Time-Locked Warranty for Your Data
Cloud storage sells “space.” Walrus sells what enterprises budget for: availability over time. You prepay WAL for a fixed retention window, and that payment is streamed to storage nodes + stakers so costs stay stable in fiat terms instead of whipsawing with token price.
Under the hood, Walrus treats files as blobs and shreds them with Red Stuff 2D erasure coding: ~5× overhead, self-healing repair bandwidth proportional to what’s lost, and recovery even if ~2/3 of nodes fail or go adversarial. Encrypt client-side, keep keys off-chain, and Walrus can still certify availability without learning the content.
Sui turns storage space + blob lifetimes into composable objects—so dApps can verify “is it still there?” without trusting a CDN.
