At the start of 2026, developer @Steve_Yegge made Gas Town, a tool that lets 20 to 30 AI programs work together automatically.

Someone then made a token called $GAS based on his tool.

On Jan 13, Yegge found out about it, took the royalties, and used them to work on AI beyond regular tools, earning $100k.

A day later, he wrote on Medium about how AI and creators can work together.

By Jan 16, GAS jumped from $10 million → $60 million market cap in just 24 hours.

One early supporter turned $108 into $420,700 in 10 days, a 3,900× gain.

This shows a new trend: people are making AI apps for real problems and using tokens to make money from them.

$GAS is just the start, and the big activity on chain shows AI season could be back.
