⚠️ Beijing’s Military Earthquake: When the “Untouchables” Fall
China has officially confirmed an investigation into Gen. Zhang Youxia, a top Central Military Commission figure once seen as part of Xi’s inner core, using the familiar wording: “suspected serious violations of discipline and law.”
That phrase is routine.
The target is not.
Outside China’s information bubble, the chatter is louder and darker (still unverified):
alleged promotion-for-cash networks inside the PLA
deeper rot tied to the Rocket Force clean-up
even whispers of a nuclear-related security breach
No one has public proof of the worst claims yet. But the signal is real: this is a purge at the top of the command pyramid, not a mid-level crackdown.
Why it matters globally:
If Xi is removing even his old military pillars, it hints at loyalty paranoia or faction risk
If corruption is this deep, confidence in China’s strategic readiness and command integrity takes a hit
Either way, uncertainty at this altitude spreads fast into geopolitics, Taiwan risk pricing, and defense planning
The real question isn’t just “corruption or espionage?”
It’s whether this is damage control… or Xi tightening the last bolts on total control.
