As of today (January 30, 2026), President Donald Trump has just announced his nomination of Kevin Warsh to replace Jerome Powell as the next Federal Reserve Chair. Powell's term as Chair ends in May 2026.
Kevin Warsh is a former Federal Reserve Governor (served 2006–2011) and a fellow at the Hoover Institution.
Trump made the announcement today (January 30, 2026), after speculation involving other candidates like Kevin Hassett (NEC Director), Rick Rieder (BlackRock), and Fed Governor Christopher Waller.
The nomination requires Senate confirmation, so Warsh isn't officially the Chair yet — but this is Trump's pick to lead the Fed starting after Powell's term.
