According to a report by the Financial Times, Christine Lagarde is thinking about leaving her role as president of the European Central Bank before her term officially ends in October 2027.
Sources cited by Jin10 say that Lagarde, who moved from the International Monetary Fund to lead the ECB in November 2019, may step down ahead of France’s presidential election next April. The report suggests she wants to give French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz the opportunity to help appoint a new head of one of the European Union’s key institutions.
However, the exact date of her possible resignation has not yet been confirmed.
