Kontigo Pledges Full Reimbursement After $340K USDC Hack

Venezuela-focused stablecoin neobank Kontigo has confirmed a security breach that led to the loss of approximately $340,905 in USDC, affecting 1,005 users. The San Francisco–based fintech said it detected unauthorized access on Jan. 5, promptly isolated affected systems, and activated security protocols while launching an investigation.

Although a full post-mortem has not yet been released, Kontigo stated it is working with independent cybersecurity firms to determine the cause and scope of the incident. The company has pledged to reimburse 100% of impacted funds, handling restitution on a case-by-case basis, and has implemented reinforced monitoring as services are restored.

The incident comes amid a broader rise in crypto-related attacks, underscoring ongoing security risks across wallets and fintech platforms. Kontigo’s investigation remains ongoing, and users are advised to stay alert and follow standard wallet security practices.
