Plasma $XPL is made to help blockchain scale better and run faster by moving alot of work away from main chain. Instead of pushing every transacion on one layer, Plasma uses child chains that can handle many transacions quick and cheap. These chains still send proofs back to main layer so security is not lost. So like this the network dont get all jammed up, fees dont suddenly go crazy, and apps can still run kinda smooth even when alottt of people are using it at the same time, not perfect but way better then before.
