Walrus is a specialized, epoch-based decentralized storage and data-availability layer built on Sui that targets large binary blobs and data markets (AI datasets, media, archives). Its native token WAL is both the payment currency for storage and the security/stake instrument that ties economic incentives to storage node participation. Walrus uses an erasure-coding scheme (branded “Red Stuff”) and a committee/shard model to make storage available and verifiable without full-replication of files across every node.
