🇺🇸USA – In a compelling legal action, the state of New Mexico formally accused Meta — the parent company of Facebook and Instagram — of facilitating child sexual exploitation and acting as an "open marketplace" for sexual predators. The complaint arises after an extensive investigation conducted by the Attorney General of the state, which alleges that the company's own tools and algorithms promote illicit content and connect malicious adults to minors.
The process, led by Attorney General Raúl Torrez, claims that the technology giant not only failed to protect children but that its recommendation systems intentionally exacerbated the problem for the sake of engagement.
