Most virtual machines sit on a rigid set of encryption loaded into the code, and they live until the end of days. But Piecrust in Dusk was done humanly, fully agnostic. If you want, write your crypto-primitives in WebAssembly and put them there. I feel that this approach truly decentralizes development, not just formally.
And if suddenly tomorrow they invent some new cool ZK-standard, much better than the current ones, then Dusk will just take it and connect it. Without having to rewrite the entire network from scratch.
