The federal government will propose the creation of a 3.5% Tax on Financial Transactions (IOF) on the purchase of virtual assets, according to a draft decree obtained by the newspaper Valor Econômico. Currently, this type of operation is not taxed by the tax.
According to the newspaper, the text provides for an exemption from the IOF for purchases made by individuals amounting to up to R$ 10 thousand.
The proposal will be submitted to public consultation, so it may still undergo changes. There is no set date for it to come into effect, but the intention of the economic team, the publication emphasizes, is for the measure to take effect this year.
