BlockBeats News, February 18th: The DeFi lending protocol Moonwell suffered a roughly $1.78 million default due to a misconfiguration of its oracle. On February 15th, Moonwell activated Chainlink's OEV aggregator contract for cbETH price oracles through governance proposal MIP-X43. A severe mistake in the oracle configuration led to a temporary valuation of only $1. On-chain bots and liquidators acted swiftly, repaying just $1 of debt to seize cbETH collateral worth thousands of dollars. This configuration error resulted in the liquidation of 1096.317 cbETH, wiping out most or all collateral from many borrowers and leaving the protocol with significant losses. Upon discovery, the Moonwell team promptly reduced the cbETH borrowing cap and supply cap to 0.01 to contain further losses. However, a spokesperson declined to provide further details on the source of the error or vulnerability.
