Hong Kong Legislative Council member Wu Jiezhuang stated on the 78HOY consultation platform (Finance CHAT) program that in March, Hong Kong will issue the first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses, hoping the government will promote the use of cryptocurrency among all Hong Kong citizens through stablecoin airdrops. Wu Jiezhuang pointed out that three years ago, the government distributed electronic consumption vouchers of 10,000 HKD per person, which significantly popularized electronic payments. He suggested that after stablecoin issuers obtain their licenses, the government could distribute stablecoin airdrops to eligible citizens for consumption at local SMEs (such as dining, entertainment, watching movies, etc.), thereby enhancing Hong Kong's status as a Web3 and digital asset center, achieving the dual goals of stimulating the economy and promoting cryptocurrency adoption. Wu Jiezhuang emphasized that this move is not simply the government giving away money, but rather promoting a multiplier effect through stablecoin consumption vouchers, with administrative costs borne by the licensed companies.
