On Sunday, the Kremlin announced that Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump have agreed to reject the temporary ceasefire proposal put forward by Europe and Ukraine.
Moscow emphasized that Ukraine must surrender control over the Donbas region before reaching a peace agreement.
Kremlin foreign policy advisor, Yuri Ushakov, stated that Putin and Trump spoke for one hour and 15 minutes at Trump's request, shortly before the U.S. President met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at Mar-a-Lago, Florida.
Ushakov reported that both leaders agreed that "the temporary ceasefire proposed by Ukraine and Europe would only prolong the conflict and could lead to an escalation of hostilities."
