If we set aside the political noise and look at the numbers — Venezuela has 303 billion barrels of oil, the largest confirmed reserves in the world. At today's price of around $57 per barrel, this amounts to approximately $17.3 trillion in underground resources.

In practical terms, the US gained control over a resource worth more than the GDP of any country in the world except the United States and China. This is four times the size of Japan's economy. The scale of this event is so vast that it's still difficult to fully grasp.
