When a user or application uploads a file to Walrus, it doesn’t just sit in a server.
Here’s what happens:
- The file is broken into many pieces.
- The pieces are encoded to let the file be rebuilt even if some are missing.
- Those pieces are spread across a network of storage nodes.
- The Sui blockchain tracks where each piece is stored and manages the payments and proofs.
This system makes storage resilient, cost-efficient, and secure.
Compared to older decentralized storage systems, Walrus stores data with significantly lower cost and faster retrieval.
