Walrus Feels Like It Was Built After the Lessons, Not Before
Walrus didn’t feel new to me. And oddly, that’s the compliment. It feels like something built after years of watching storage protocols overreach, overpromise, and eventually unravel.
Running on Sui, Walrus keeps its ambitions tightly scoped: private transactions and decentralized storage that works at scale without theatrics. Erasure coding and blob storage aren’t treated as selling points they’re just the most sensible tools for moving large data efficiently and cheaply. The result feels calm, predictable, and usable.
From experience, I know this is where most projects quietly fail later incentives, governance, long-term demand. Walrus hasn’t escaped those questions. But early adoption suggests it’s already being used for real needs. If that continues, its biggest advantage may be that it learned restraint before learning scale.
