Walrus uses advanced decentralized storage technologies to securely handle large files across a distributed network of nodes. It’s built on the Sui blockchain, which coordinates metadata, payments, and smart contracts, while a novel erasure-coding algorithm called Red Stuff splits and encodes data into shards for resilient storage with low redundancy. WAL holders can stake tokens and participate in governance, and storage nodes prove availability to earn rewards. Walrus also offers programmable blob storage, SDKs, and Web2 interfaces, making it efficient, cost-effective, and suitable for media, NFTs, AI data, and Web3 apps .
