High-performance chips #NVIDIA produced in Taiwan and intended for shipment to the Chinese market have come under the scope of new U.S. import tariffs. This occurred shortly after U.S. authorities granted the company permission to export this product to China, albeit with several significant conditions.

US President Donald Trump signed a decree imposing a 25% tariff on the import of 'certain advanced semiconductors' used in artificial intelligence developments. The new measure is part of a broader strategy to control the spread of critically important technologies and protect the national security of the United States.

The official bulletin of the White House emphasizes that the tariffs are aimed solely at neutralizing potential security threats and will not apply to chips imported to support the development of the American technology supply chain. It is also noted that exceptions have been made for products that contribute to strengthening the internal manufacturing capabilities of the United States in the production of semiconductor derivatives.

According to the decree, new tariffs apply, in particular, to chips such as Nvidia H200 and AMD MI325 — solutions actively used in artificial intelligence computations and data centers. As reported by Axios, this step is part of a compromise agreement between US authorities and Nvidia. Under this agreement, the company is allowed to supply products produced in Taiwan to China but is obligated to pay 25% of the revenue from these sales to the budget of the United States. The export permit was granted to Nvidia just before the tariffs took effect.

Nvidia itself positively evaluated the decision of the Trump administration. Company representatives stated that the measures taken allow it to maintain competitiveness in the global market and called the agreement a 'balanced compromise' that will benefit the American economy and the technology sector in the long term.

The company #AMD , whose products are also subject to the decree, in turn emphasized that it strictly complies with the current US export control legislation and will continue to operate within the established regulatory requirements.
