The wayward children of the city are clapping and shouting behind him, and they have started throwing pebbles as well. But it is astonishing that this beggar neither stops nor scolds those throwing stones. Smiling and humming softly, he continues on his way. Suddenly, a large stone strikes him on the head. When a thin line of blood begins to cross his forehead from the wound, he stops. Then he turns towards the children throwing stones and says.
My children, do not throw big stones, keep entertaining yourselves by throwing small pebbles. Just one stone caused concern. A sharp-tongued boy, moving forward, says.
No, my son, it is not like that. I want your amusement to continue, and my work to also carry on. Blood does not flow from pebbles. It starts flowing from stones, which breaks the ablution, and without ablution, I cannot prostrate before my beloved. This dervish passing through a street in the city of Qarn in Yemen was the king of the realm of love and ecstasy, Hazrat Khawaja Owais Qarni (may Allah be pleased with him). Whenever the mention of those who circumambulate the Kaaba of love arises, the name of Hazrat Khawaja Owais Qarni (may Allah be pleased with him) will always be foremost. It is recorded in Tazkirat al-Awliya that in response to the inquiry of the companions, the Noble Prophet, peace be upon him, stated that instead of the outer eye, they are granted the blessing of seeing me with the inner eye.
The beloved of the universe, peace be upon him, praised the passionate love and affectionate demeanor of Hazrat Khawaja Owais Qarni (may Allah be pleased with him). It is narrated that the beloved of God, peace be upon him, would sometimes, in a state of overwhelming love, open the buttons of his garment and face Yemen while saying.
I find the fragrance of the Most Merciful coming from Yemen.
I can smell the scent of mercy coming from Yemen. It was indeed Owais Qarni (may Allah be pleased with him) whose blessings made the breezes of mercy perfume the air from Yemen. Thus, Maulana Jami expresses it in poetic form.
The scent of life comes from Yemen
From the spirit of the life-giver Owais Qarni
And Allah knows best. If there is any mistake or shortcoming, may Allah the Almighty forgive.
