UN Secretary General António Guterres warned member states of an “imminent financial collapse” of the organization. According to him, unpaid mandatory contributions and strict budget limits could leave the UN without funds as early as July.

Guterres urged countries either to pay their contributions in full and on time or urgently revise the financial rules. The crisis already threatens UN programs and continues to worsen.

Reuters reports that the situation has deteriorated further after the largest donor, the United States, reduced funding for the UN’s regular and peacekeeping budgets.
