Support for the web3:// protocol, designated as ERC-4804, has been officially implemented by OpenSea.

At present, the majority of NFTs depend on off-chain infrastructure for users to access and interpret them. Unfortunately, if these external access layers cease to function, the assets themselves become unreachable. ERC-4804 addresses this by establishing a native mechanism for resolving NFT metadata directly through Ethereum, effectively eliminating the need for DNS, gateways, or centralized access points.
