Modern biological research generates data on an unprecedented scale - from sequencing individual cells to the connectomics of the entire brain - yet transforming this data into validated biological conclusions remains a fundamental bottleneck.

As part of the AI@HHMI initiative, the HHMI Institute will collaborate with Anthropic to accelerate discoveries in the biological sciences. The collaboration will take place at the HHMI Janelia research campus, which has been developing revolutionary technologies for two decades - from genetically encoded calcium sensors to electron microscopes designed to study brain architecture. This fund provides the HHMI Institute with unique opportunities to shape how artificial intelligence systems engage in the research process and enhance it.

This partnership could become the foundation for creating an 'AI-biologist' that will accelerate drug development and understanding of brain functions by dozens of times!

And although there is currently no official partnership announced between Anthropic and BIO Protocol, they are part of a larger global trend — the transition to DeSci (Decentralized Science) and the automation of science.

Their connection can be viewed through the concept of the 'intellectual stack' of modern science. Here’s how they complement each other:

1. #ClaudeAI — is 'Brain', #BIOProtocol — is 'Economy'

For Claude (#Anthropic ) to accelerate discoveries, it needs resources: funding, real laboratory capabilities, and access to specific data.

Claude provides intellectual work: data analysis, hypothesis generation.

BIO Protocol creates an infrastructure where these hypotheses can receive funding through BioDAOs (decentralized scientific communities).

The main issue is transforming data into conclusions and decentralizing ownership. Transforming data into conclusions and hypotheses is addressed by Anthropic through AI agents that accelerate analysis. Meanwhile, the issue of decentralizing ownership is addressed by #BIO Protocol. Instead of research results belonging to a single corporation, they become the intellectual property of the community (IP-NFT).

A possible next synergistic scenario

Imagine the future of scientific research:

Search: Scientists use Claude (through a partnership with the Allen Institute) to identify a new target for Alzheimer's disease treatment.

Funding: This project is showcased on the BIO Protocol platform.

Verification: The BioDAO community funds research, and Claude helps plan experiments in HHMI laboratories.

Outcome: The obtained data is re-analyzed by Claude, and the intellectual property rights are recorded on the BIO blockchain. There is no direct connection in the releases, but they work in the same field. Anthropic creates tools that scientists will use, while BIO Protocol creates a system that allows these scientists to be independent from traditional grants and pharmaceutical giants.

We'll see if this collaboration happens in the future! What do you think?
