🚨Epic Fail: 320 bitcoins were lost during a "routine check"; the South Korean prosecution personally sent
$BTC into a black hole
This is not a hacker movie, nor is it a joke.
This is a real accident-level failure that happened within the South Korean judicial system.
The Gwangju police previously seized 1800 bitcoins. Due to transaction limits, they could only process them in batches, during which over 1400 BTC were stolen, and their whereabouts remain unknown.
The remaining 320 bitcoins were treated as "safe assets" and stored in a USB cold wallet, entrusted to the Gwangju District Prosecutor's Office for safekeeping.
As a result, now—even this last 320 bitcoins are gone.
What disappeared was not hackers, but a "routine check"
According to Ohmy News, the Gwangju District Prosecutor's Office discovered anomalies during a routine asset check.
What they checked for was: 👉 The existence of the Bitcoin private keys on the USB drive.
Then the plot began to spiral out of control. The prosecution's initial internal speculation includes:
- Someone mistakenly clicked on a phishing site while viewing the USB
- The private keys were leaked as a result
- Internal personnel theft cannot be ruled out
- It also cannot be ruled out that the prosecutor's computer was infected with malware
In other words:
The cold wallet was not hacked remotely; it was a human who opened the door.
How much money is there? It's a bit startling to say, the current leaked internal estimate is:
Lost bitcoins valued at approximately 70 billion Korean won
Converted to about 370 million RMB
The actual number of bitcoins lost is still under investigation
In response to media inquiries, the official response from the prosecution was only one sentence:
"We cannot confirm this matter."
Yes, even the judicial authorities themselves cannot temporarily figure out where the money went.
No direct attack from hackers
Criminals did not touch the wallet
No on-chain vulnerabilities
Just a "routine check"
A "misclick"
The result is:
Hundreds of bitcoins evaporated directly.
After seeing this matter, only one conclusion remains
Bitcoin is fine.
The blockchain did not go wrong.
The problem lies with
humans, devices, and operating environments.
💀This is not a joke from the crypto circle,
This is an expensive "misoperation demonstration" in the real world.
