Huawei has taken the lead in foldable innovation by unveiling the Mate XT, the industry's first commercially available tri-fold smartphone, surpassing Samsung despite facing trade sanctions. In response, Samsung is reportedly gearing up to launch its own tri-fold device, the Galaxy G Fold, expected in Q3 2025.

Unlike Huawei’s S-shaped folding pattern, the Galaxy G Fold will feature a fully inward-folding design for better durability and screen protection. The device is rumored to have a 9.96-inch unfolded display, offering a tablet-like experience, yet maintaining a compact 6.54-inch form when folded.

Samsung is likely to equip the Galaxy G Fold with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite instead of the Exynos 2500, aligning with its strategy of using premium chipsets for foldables. However, pricing concerns remain, as tri-fold phones require complex hinges and multiple flexible screens, making them expensive.

Despite potential challenges, the Galaxy G Fold marks Samsung’s first major departure from its Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series, signaling a bold step in foldable innovation. The official announcement is expected later this year.
