In Vietnam, a 2,000 billion VND (about 80 million USD) cryptocurrency scam was busted by Hanoi City Police, affecting 1,900 victims. The scam used a Visa card promoted for global "XFI" cryptocurrency payments. Investors were tricked into buying "MPX" to "mine" XFI, but the card was unusable by the suspects, and MPX couldn’t generate XFI. Hanoi City Police’s Senior Lieutenant Colonel Cao Van Thai revealed the card was preloaded with USD to fake its capabilities, with staged supermarket videos as bait. Cryptocurrencies aren’t legal payment methods in Vietnam, and withdrawals were nearly impossible, luring victims to buy worthless MPX. Experts warn of high fraud risks as Vietnam’s crypto laws are still forming.
