Japan election may speed up crypto reforms
Exit polls indicate the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) led by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi could secure a majority in Japan’s lower house, a result that may accelerate the country’s crypto and digital asset agenda.
NHK estimates the LDP could win about 274–328 of 465 seats, well above the 233 needed to control the legislative agenda. A clear majority would give the government more room to pass key measures without heavy coalition bargaining.
Japan is pursuing major reforms, including cutting crypto taxes from rates as high as 55% to a flat 20%, reclassifying digital assets as financial products, and building clearer frameworks for stablecoins, tokenized securities, and potential crypto ETFs by 2028.
