The Rafah crossing in southern Gaza, which reopened for limited passage earlier this month, has seen fewer crossings than anticipated. According to RTHK, Gaza authorities reported that only over 1,100 Palestinians have passed through the Rafah crossing, which is about one-third of the initially expected number.

Data released by Gaza authorities indicate that from the reopening on the 2nd of this month until the 18th, a total of 1,148 individuals crossed the border. Among them, 640 people left Gaza, while 508 returned. Additionally, 26 individuals were denied exit from Gaza for unspecified reasons.

Under the ceasefire agreement, the reopening of the Rafah crossing was expected to allow 50 Palestinians to return to Gaza daily, along with permitting 50 patients from Gaza and two accompanying individuals each to travel to Egypt.
