The Ministry of Finance of Slovenia is seeking public opinions on a draft law imposing a 25% tax on profits from cryptocurrency transactions, applicable from January 1, 2026, if approved. The tax applies when converting crypto to fiat currency or for purchasing goods, but does not apply to crypto-crypto transactions or internal wallet transfers. Citizens must keep records for annual tax filing.
The Finance Minister believes that not taxing cryptocurrency is "illogical", while MP Jernej Vrtovec warns that high tax rates could drive young people and capital abroad. The bill will be consulted until May 5.
