When people say “AI agents will run the economy,” it can sound like sci-fi hype until you try something very ordinary: letting an agent spend money on your behalf. That’s where reality hits. Sending a payment is easy. Delegating the right to pay—safely, predictably, and without babysitting every step—is the hard part.



Right now, most payment systems assume a human is holding the steering wheel. Even when you automate parts of the process, the accountability model is still human-shaped: you can call the bank, file a dispute, lock the card, talk to support, prove who you are. Agents don’t fit that shape. They can be copied, hijacked, or tricked. They can be given too much power by accident. State channels are powerful but can be tricky in practice—tooling and safety defaults will matter a lot. An identity system that looks elegant on paper still has to be developer-friendly enough that people don’t circumvent it. And modules add flexibility, but also complexity: they’re a coordination surface where incentives can either align beautifully or get messy.



But the direction is coherent. Kite is trying to make autonomy feel governable. Not by asking you to trust a model more, but by designing a system where the model never gets the chance to exceed what you’d willingly allow in the first place.
