Changpeng Zhao (CZ) is an inspirational figure in the crypto world. Born in Jiangsu province in 1977, he experienced hardship early on: his family faced political turmoil and material scarcity. At age 12 he moved to Canada, where odd jobs from flipping burgers at McDonald’s to overnight shifts at gas stations taught him the dignity of work and the value of perseverance. After studying computer science at McGill University, CZ built his technical career at the Tokyo Stock Exchange and Bloomberg, later founding Fusion Systems in 2005.

A chance introduction to Bitcoin in 2013 changed everything. CZ sold his Shanghai apartment and invested in crypto, then dove into blockchain projects and served as CTO at OKCoin. In 2017 he launched Binance with a $15 million ICO a combination of rapid execution, low fees, and user-first design helped Binance become the world’s largest exchange within months. Innovations like $BNB and Binance Smart Chain expanded crypto’s reach.

CZ faced legal and operational challenges that tested both him and Binance. He’s said those trials taught him to prioritize family and health, and informed his next moves. Today he leads with a focus on education and philanthropy applying AI to scale learning initiatives while advocating broader crypto accessibility. His journey is a blueprint: resilience, calculated risk-taking, and long-term vision can reshape the world.

Thanks to giving Binance thanks for everything team 💛 @CZ 💛
