For most participants, 2021 became the blueprint: explosive alt seasons, viral memes, retail euphoria, and vertical charts that barely paused. The danger now is assuming the next expansion will follow that same script.
It won’t.

The Market Is No Longer Retail-Dominated
In 2021, stimulus checks, zero rates, and social momentum poured gasoline on speculation. Retail drove velocity. Attention was the main catalyst.
Today, the structure is different.
Institutional capital is embedded in the system. ETFs, structured products, custody solutions, regulatory frameworks — these didn’t meaningfully shape the 2021 rally. Now they do.

Institutions move slower. They size larger. They rotate strategically.
That changes the rhythm of the cycle.
Liquidity Isn’t Free Anymore
The previous bull run thrived in an environment of aggressive money printing and abundant risk appetite. Liquidity was expanding globally.
This cycle is unfolding under tighter macro conditions. Capital is more selective. Risk allocation is more deliberate.
That doesn’t prevent rallies.
It changes how they unfold.
Instead of everything going vertical at once, liquidity may concentrate in specific sectors before rotating outward. Strength may emerge in waves rather than in a broad explosion.

2021 was about hype velocity — NFTs, memecoins, play-to-earn.
Now the narratives are deeper: AI infrastructure, tokenized real-world assets, modular chains, decentralized compute.
These themes aren’t just viral — they’re structural. They integrate with broader technological shifts.
That creates durability.
But durability often replaces chaos.
Market Efficiency Has Increased
Information spreads instantly. Alpha decays quickly. Rotations happen faster.
In 2021, trends could run for months uninterrupted.
In this cycle, capital may rotate within weeks.
The edge won’t be holding everything blindly.
It will be recognizing structural shifts early.
The Psychology Has Matured
Many participants survived the last bear market.
They’ve seen 80% drawdowns. They’ve experienced leverage wipes. They’ve watched narratives collapse.
That trauma changes behavior.
Instead of blind euphoria, the tone feels cautious. Capital is flowing — but selectively. Strong projects absorb attention. Weak ones fade quietly.
This is what a maturing asset class looks like.
Why This Could Shock Everyone
Because most people are waiting for 2021 again.

They’re waiting for:
• Every altcoin to 20x simultaneously
• Instant parabolic breakouts
• Universal mania
But the next expansion may look different.
It may start with Bitcoin absorbing liquidity.
Then capital rotates into high-conviction sectors.
Then selective alt explosions follow.
Not everything — just the strongest narratives.
Fewer winners.
Bigger concentration.
Higher asymmetry for those positioned correctly.
This Isn’t a Sequel
Cycles evolve because capital evolves.
Liquidity structure has changed.
Participants have changed.
Macro conditions have changed.
Infrastructure has changed.
The next bull phase may be less chaotic — but more strategic.
And the ones who adapt to the new structure instead of chasing the old memory are the ones most likely to capture the real upside.
History doesn’t replay perfectly.

And this cycle may reward discipline and positioning more than hype and noise.

Following our Fibonacci comparative analysis of Ethereum (ETHUSD) between its 2022 and 2026 Bear Cycles almost 3 months ago (December 01 2025, see chart below) where we predicted the consolidation and January's - February's crash, we decided to take this a step further and add the 2018 Bear Cycle in the mix too:

The results are even more mind-blowing and help put the rest of the 2026 Bear Cycle into greater context.
With the 1W CCI sequences identical among the three Cycle fractals, we are now at a point where Stage 2 of the Cycle has already started. The question is of course how low can it go?
A relatively fair approach would be expecting it to drop and bottom somewhere within a potential -82% decline (as was the 2022 Bear Cycle) and the 1.5 Fibonacci extension from the Bull Cycle's last pull-back. As you can see this has been consistent on the 2018 Cycle too.
A triple bottom below the CCI's -100.00 (oversold) level would also be a fair estimate (again was an optimal long-term buy entry in 2018 and 2022). A break and 1W closing above its 1D MA200 (red trend-line) has also confirmed the start of the new Bull Cycle in both 2019 and 2023.
As a result, we have a cyclical Buy Zone within the $900.00 - $750.00 range.

Saw the new Ethereum Foundation plan for 2026. Looks tougher than the usual "we'll improve soon." They're actually targeting a gas limit of 100 million+. If this isn't bluffing, transactions on L2s will get noticeably cheaper.
Three main points: speed, UX, and security.
On speed — focus on L2s and data availability. Glamsterdam fork is in the plans. But the main thing — they've finally seriously tackled usability. Account abstraction should make smart wallets the standard. I'm tired of explaining to newcomers what gas is and why their transaction is stuck.
On security, it's interesting too. Focus on censorship resistance and post-quantum protection. Seems they realized competition is insane. Just "being first" isn't enough anymore, you need to be a reliable vault.
But there's a catch. There have been many roadmaps. Remember the endless sharding expectations? Now the focus is on rollups and block capacity. Developers are talking about separating proposers and builders so the network doesn't centralize as it grows.
I think 2026 will be a turning point. Either ETH finally becomes a convenient payment system for the masses, or it stays an expensive network for whales. Competitors aren't sleeping — Solana and others are pushing hard on UX. Ethereum is betting on reliability and modularity. Right now, many have moved to Solana precisely because of simplicity and cheapness. ETH needs to get solid ground back under its feet.
The plan is ambitious. Increasing throughput without losing decentralization is the holy grail. If they pull this off with a 100M+ gas limit and proper wallets — bulls won't be stopped.
