FCA selects four firms for stablecoin sandbox to shape UK rules
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has selected four crypto firms to participate in a regulatory sandbox for stablecoins, a move that will help shape the United Kingdom’s final stablecoin framework due later this year.
The selected companies include neobank Revolut, along with Monee Financial Technologies, ReStabilise and VVTX. All four firms are currently developing stablecoin-related projects.
The sandbox will allow participants to test stablecoin issuance and related products in real-world conditions without facing regulatory penalties. According to the FCA, the trials will primarily focus on issuance models and operational frameworks.
The regulator said the selected proposals span a range of use cases, including payments, wholesale settlement and crypto trading. Each firm will receive feedback from FCA specialists while contributing to the development of the UK’s regulatory approach.
The four companies were chosen from a pool of 20 applicants.
The UK is in the process of finalizing its stablecoin regulatory regime, expected later this year, with insights from the sandbox program set to directly influence the structure of the new rules.
Meanwhile, the United States passed its own stablecoin framework, the GENIUS Act, last summer. UK banking leaders have recently stressed the importance of keeping pace with the U.S. in establishing crypto regulations.
In September, both countries announced the formation of the Transatlantic Taskforce for Markets of the Future, a joint crypto regulatory working group chaired by officials from the U.S. Treasury Department and His Majesty’s Treasury. The task force is expected to release a report on its findings this summer, aiming to strengthen capital market ties and reduce barriers between the two nations’ crypto sectors.

The CME FedWatch Tool indicates a 98% chance the Federal Reserve will keep interest rates unchanged in March. The likelihood of a 25 basis point rate cut by the same month is only 2%. Market expectations for rate cuts increase modestly to 15.9% by April and 39.5% by June.
