His comment came during CLARITY Act debate.
A full committee markup next week will consider changes and perhaps advance the bipartisan plan.
At the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Donald Trump made a major announcement on Congress's regulatory clarity legislation.
Trump said he wants to sign a crypto market structure law from Congress shortly.
Trump ‘Hopes’ to Sign Crypto Bill After Delay
There's little question that Trump's pro-crypto administration has improved bitcoin regulation. Trump made his comments after congressional differences delayed a crucial vote session until late January.
The CLARITY Act is anticipated to clarify digital asset market regulations. It would provide the CFTC spot trading jurisdiction and safeguard crypto wallet owners.
Discussion participants think this delay might keep the sector unsure for months. Senators like retiring North Carolina Republican Thom Tillis and Wyoming Republican Cynthia Lummis have cautioned that the matter may not be settled until after the November elections.
In a recent briefing, President Donald Trump, who has often declared he wants the US to lead cryptocurrencies, emphasized speed. “We want this bill on my desk ASAP – no more delays,” Trump remarked in June 2025.
He passed the GENIUS Act to regulate payment stablecoins in July, and this legislation continues that approach. The CLARITY Act expands on that statute and FIT21, a 2024 House measure. The CFTC and SEC would share control and require crypto exchanges and brokers to register with the government.
