On February 2, local time, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M23 rebel group signed an authorization for a ceasefire monitoring mechanism in Doha, Qatar. According to Jin10, the Qatari Foreign Ministry confirmed that both parties agreed to have the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo lead and coordinate the deployment of a ceasefire monitoring team by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region. The first monitoring team is expected to arrive in the strategic eastern city of Uvira in the coming days, establishing communication channels and holding regular assessment meetings. Additionally, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to the ceasefire and the Doha Peace Framework Agreement signed last November. The talks were hosted by Qatar, with observers from the United States and the African Union present, and Togo participating as the AU coordinator.
