This morning, while driving my wife to work, I had the radio on and happened to hear Tianjin Music Radio. I don’t even remember what the ad was promoting, but one line stood out clearly: “This product supports full traceability on Ant Chain.”
For someone who’s been around the crypto market for years, the word “chain” instantly caught my attention.
In the past, whenever we talked about “chains” in the crypto space, the focus was usually on which chain a token lives on, or which ecosystem a project belongs to. Very rarely did we stop to think about how blockchain technology itself is actually being applied and developed locally.
Because our country has long promoted the idea of “blockchain without coins,” and with virtual currencies facing continuous regulatory pressure, many of us who trade coins have naturally developed biases toward domestic blockchain projects. At least for me, it always felt like there was nothing to gain, so I barely paid attention.
But after dropping my wife off, curiosity got the better of me. I opened a local app to search it up — and there it was: white papers, blockchain explorers, real use cases. That’s when it hit me. Blockchain is no longer just a playground for geeks or crypto traders. It’s already being integrated into everyday life and the real economy. On this path of “de-financialization and practical implementation,” blockchain seems to be moving forward in a very real way.
It made me feel oddly disconnected. What are we actually trading in the crypto market every day? Narratives, concepts, ecosystems, stories. Sometimes it feels like we’re trading ideas in the air, while real blockchain technology is quietly being deployed and used by ordinary people.
Writing this out, I can’t help but laugh at myself — maybe what I’ve been trading all along is a bit… superficial 😂
