OpenAI has announced the deployment of an AI-based age prediction system designed to identify ChatGPT users under the age of 18 and automatically enforce content restrictions. According to Odaily, the system evaluates user age by analyzing signals such as account duration, active hours, and behavior patterns, rather than relying solely on the birth date provided during registration. Accounts identified as belonging to teenagers will face strict limitations on violent and sexually sensitive content. OpenAI stated that adult users mistakenly identified as minors can verify their age through a third-party service, Persona, by uploading a selfie or identification document to regain access.

Additionally, the update includes new parental control features, allowing parents to set quiet hours and receive notifications if the system detects significant emotional distress in their children. This system is currently available in the ChatGPT consumer plan and is expected to be launched in the European Union in the coming weeks.
