11th-century reformer, cardinal, monk, and one of the greatest spiritual writers of the Middle Ages. Born poor in Ravenna, orphaned young, raised by his brother, he entered monastic life at Fonte Avellana and became prior, founding several hermitages. Appointed cardinal-bishop of Ostia by Pope Leo IX, he fought simony, clerical marriage, and corruption with fearless zeal, writing powerful treatises and letters. Called “the scourge of simoniacs,” he helped restore the moral authority of the papacy during a turbulent era. Died 1072. Proclaimed Doctor of the Church in 1828.

In 1917, alongside their cousin Lucia, Jacinta (7) and Francisco (9) witnessed the six apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. They accepted her call to daily Rosary, penance, and reparation for sinners with heroic courage. Francisco longed to console Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament; Jacinta offered intense suffering for the conversion of sinners and the Holy Father. Both died young from the 1918 flu pandemic—Francisco at 10, Jacinta at 9—after offering their illnesses in union with Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart.

Born c. 1290 in noble family in Piacenza, Italy, Conrad accidentally set fire to woods while hunting, blamed a poor man, and allowed him to be punished. Struck by remorse, Conrad sold his possessions, gave the proceeds to the poor and to the innocent victim’s family, then fled to a hermitage. Later he joined the Third Order of St. Francis, lived as a hermit on Sicily for 36 years, subsisting on herbs, and was gifted with miracles and prophecy. He died 1351.

February 14th, we celebrate Sts. Cyril and Methodius, Bishops, Apostles to the Slavs, co-patrons of Europe.
In the 9th century, brothers Cyril (monk-scholar) and Methodius (abbot) were sent from Constantinople to evangelize the Moravians and other Slavs. They invented the Glagolitic alphabet (predecessor of Cyrillic), translated the liturgy and Scriptures into Old Church Slavonic, and defended the use of vernacular languages in worship against opposition. Their work laid the foundation for Slavic Christianity.

February 13th, we honour Our Lady of Fatima, the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to the three shepherd children in 1917.
In Cova da Iria, Portugal, Mary appeared six times to Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta, calling for daily Rosary, penance, and devotion to her Immaculate Heart. She showed a vision of Hell, promised the triumph of her Heart, and entrusted the three secrets (including the consecration of Russia and reparation for sins). The Miracle of the Sun on October 13 confirmed her message to 70,000 witnesses.

St. Josephine Bakhita (1869–1947), kidnapped as a child in Sudan, endured years of brutal slavery before being freed in Italy. She became a Canossian Sister, living in humility and forgiveness, saying: “I can truly say that it was a miracle I did not die, because the Lord destined me for greater things.”
